Bhagavad Gita Chapter 14
Gunatraya Vibhaga Yoga — గుణత్రయ విభాగ యోగం
27 verses · The Three Gunas of Material Nature
Krishna explains the three gunas — Sattva (purity, light, knowledge), Rajas (activity, passion, attachment), Tamas (inertia, ignorance, delusion). All embodied beings are bound by these three. Liberation comes from transcending all three. The chapter describes the characteristics of each guna and what happens at death depending on which guna predominates.
Key Verse
त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैरेभिः सर्वमिदं जगत् — By these three guna-natured states, the entire world is bewildered.
Tribhir guṇa-mayair bhāvair ebhiḥ sarvam idaṃ jagat
ఈ మూడు గుణాలచేత సర్వ ప్రపంచం మోహితమైంది
Spiritual Lesson
Cultivate Sattva. Transcend Sattva to reach Brahman. Even attachment to the highest spiritual qualities (purity, knowledge) is still attachment.
