Navaratna (నవరత్నాలు) refers to the 9 sacred gemstones in Vedic astrology — one for each of the 9 Navagrahas (planets): Ruby (Sun), Pearl (Moon), Red Coral (Mars), Emerald (Mercury), Yellow Sapphire (Jupiter), Diamond (Venus), Blue Sapphire (Saturn), Hessonite (Rahu), and Cat's Eye (Ketu). When to Wear Which Gemstone
The general rule: wear the gemstone of your chart's strongest benefic or Lagna lord. NEVER wear the gemstone of an afflicted malefic planet — this amplifies the negative.

- Check if Lagna lord is well-placed (in Kendra/Trikona, own/exalted sign, no severe affliction).
- If yes → wearing Lagna lord's gemstone is generally safe and beneficial.
- If Lagna lord is weak/afflicted → consult an astrologer for an alternative.
Yellow Sapphire — The Most Universal
Jupiter (Brihaspati) is the natural benefic. Yellow Sapphire is the most universally safe gemstone — beneficial for most charts. Particularly recommended for unmarried natives seeking marriage, students seeking wisdom, and those starting spiritual practice.
Blue Sapphire — The Most Reactive
Blue Sapphire (Neelam) is the most powerful and most dangerous gemstone. If suitable, it produces dramatic rises in wealth, authority, and longevity within months. How to Wear Gemstones — Vedic Procedure
- Get the gemstone certified for authenticity (look for IIGJ, GIA, or recognized lab certificates). Natural untreated gemstones are required — heat-treated or synthetic versions don't carry astrological effect.
- Minimum carat weight: 3-7 carats depending on the gemstone. Higher weight produces stronger effect.
