Vastu Shastra Telugu Guide · Classical Manasara & Mayamatam principles
Complete Vastu guide for home construction: ideal east/north-facing orientation, Vastu Purusha mandala (8 directions), room-by-room placement principles, common Vastu doshas and their remedies — all aligned with the classical Manasara Shilpa Shastra and Mayamatam texts.
The Vastu Purusha Mandala — 8-Direction Foundation
Vastu Shastra views every plot/home as a living being — the Vastu Purusha — divided into a 9×9 grid (Mandala) with each cell governed by a specific devata. The 8 cardinal/intercardinal directions each have an ideal use:
- North (Kubera): wealth — best for safe, locker room, treasury
- Northeast (Ishanya — Shiva): sacred energy — best for pooja room, water source
- East (Indra): sunrise — best for main entrance, windows for early sun
- Southeast (Agneya — Agni): fire — best for kitchen, electrical panel
- South (Yama): heavy mass — best for master bedroom, storage
- Southwest (Nairutya — Rakshasa): earth/heavy — owner's bedroom, heavy furniture
- West (Varuna): reflection — children's rooms, dining
- Northwest (Vayavya — Vayu): movement — guest room, garage
Ideal House Orientation
The 4 facings ranked by classical Vastu (from most to least favorable):
- East-facing (Toorpu Mukham): Best — sunrise blesses the main entrance daily. Brings prosperity, fame, knowledge.
- North-facing (Uttara Mukham): Excellent — Kubera direction enhances wealth flow.
- West-facing (Paschima Mukham): Acceptable with proper internal layout — works for steady, established residents.
- South-facing (Dakshina Mukham): Most cautious — requires expert Vastu correction; not for first-time homeowners.

Common Vastu Doshas (Defects) & Remedies
If structural Vastu correction is not possible (existing home), classical remedies (Vastu Pariharam) can neutralize defects:
- Toilet in Northeast: Place a copper Vastu yantra below the toilet; keep door always closed; do not use during morning sandhya.
- Kitchen in Northeast: Add a copper Kubera yantra in the kitchen northeast corner; keep red-cloth-wrapped salt jar in kitchen southeast corner.
- Main door facing Southwest: Hang Hanuman picture + Toran of mango leaves above the door; maintain heavy ironwork on door.
- Missing Northeast corner: Place a small mirror facing the missing corner from inside the home to "complete" the energy.
- Stairs in Northeast: Place a Vastu Purusha Yantra at the foot of stairs; keep stairs always well-lit.
