The Navagraha Stotram by Sage Vyasa is the most-recited Sanskrit hymn to the 9 planetary deities (Surya, Chandra, Mangala, Budha, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu, Ketu). One verse per planet — recited daily, it pacifies planetary afflictions, brings harmony with cosmic forces, and is the most respected stotra for navagraha shanti rituals. 1. Surya (Sun)

जपाकुसुम संकाशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम् । तमोऽरिं सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोऽस्मि दिवाकरम् ॥

జపాకుసుమ సంకాశం కాశ్యపేయం మహాద్యుతిం, తమో'రిం సర్వపాపఘ్నం ప్రణతో'స్మి దివాకరం

I bow to Surya (Sun) — radiant like a hibiscus flower, son of sage Kashyapa, of great splendor, enemy of darkness, destroyer of all sins.

2. Chandra (Moon)

दधिशङ्खतुषाराभं क्षीरोदार्णवसम्भवम् । नमामि शशिनं सोमं शम्भोर्मुकुटभूषणम् ॥

దధిశంఖతుషారాభం క్షీరోదార్ణవసంభవం, నమామి శశినం సోమం శంభోర్ముకుటభూషణం

I bow to Chandra (Moon) — pale like curd, conch shell, and snow; born from the milk ocean; the rabbit-marked Soma; the crown jewel of Shambhu (Shiva).

3. Mangala (Mars)

धरणीगर्भसम्भूतं विद्युत्कान्तिसमप्रभम् । कुमारं शक्तिहस्तं तं मङ्गलं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

ధరణీగర్భసంభూతం విద్యుత్కాంతిసమప్రభం, కుమారం శక్తిహస్తం తం మంగళం ప్రణమామ్యహం

I bow to Mangala (Mars) — born from the womb of Earth, radiant like lightning, eternally youthful, holding the Shakti weapon.

4. Budha (Mercury)

प्रियङ्गुकलिकाश्यामं रूपेणाप्रतिमं बुधम् । सौम्यं सौम्यगुणोपेतं तं बुधं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

ప్రియంగుకలికాశ్యామం రూపేణాప్రతిమం బుధం, సౌమ్యం సౌమ్యగుణోపేతం తం బుధం ప్రణమామ్యహం

I bow to Budha (Mercury) — dark like priyangu (millet) bud, peerless in beauty, gentle, endowed with all gentle qualities.

5. Guru / Brihaspati (Jupiter)

देवानाञ्च ऋषीणाञ्च गुरुं काञ्चनसन्निभम् । बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम् ॥

దేవానాంచ ఋషీణాంచ గురుం కాంచనసన్నిభం, బుద్ధిభూతం త్రిలోకేశం తం నమామి బృహస్పతిం

I bow to Brihaspati (Jupiter) — guru of gods and sages, golden in appearance, embodiment of intellect, lord of the three worlds.

6. Shukra (Venus)

हिमकुन्दमृणालाभं दैत्यानां परमं गुरुम् । सर्वशास्त्रप्रवक्तारं भार्गवं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

హిమకుందమృణాలాభం దైత్యానాం పరమం గురుం, సర్వశాస్త్రప్రవక్తారం భార్గవం ప్రణమామ్యహం

I bow to Shukra (Venus) — pale like snow, jasmine, and lotus stalk; supreme guru of demons; the speaker of all sciences; the descendent of sage Bhrigu.

7. Shani (Saturn)

नीलाञ्जनसमाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम् । छायामार्ताण्डसम्भूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् ॥

నీలాంజనసమాభాసం రవిపుత్రం యమాగ్రజం, ఛాయామార్తాండసంభూతం తం నమామి శనైశ్చరం

I bow to Shani (Saturn) — radiant like blue collyrium, son of Surya and Chhaya, elder brother of Yama, slow-moving Shanaishchara.

8. Rahu (North Lunar Node)

अर्धकायं महावीर्यं चन्द्रादित्यविमर्दनम् । सिंहिकागर्भसम्भूतं तं राहुं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

అర్ధకాయం మహావీర్యం చంద్రాదిత్యవిమర్దనం, సింహికాగర్భసంభూతం తం రాహుం ప్రణమామ్యహం

I bow to Rahu (North Lunar Node) — half-bodied, mighty, devourer of Sun and Moon (eclipse-causer), born from the womb of Simhika.

9. Ketu (South Lunar Node)

पलाशपुष्पसङ्काशं तारकाग्रहमस्तकम् । रौद्रं रौद्रात्मकं घोरं तं केतुं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

పలాశపుష్పసంకాశం తారకాగ్రహమస్తకం, రౌద్రం రౌద్రాత్మకం ఘోరం తం కేతుం ప్రణమామ్యహం

I bow to Ketu (South Lunar Node) — radiant like the palasha flower; head of the constellation of demonic stars; fierce, of terrible nature, terrifying.

When to Recite

Daily at sunrise or before sunset — facing east. Recite at a navagraha shrine (most South Indian temples have one). For specific planetary remedies, recite the corresponding sloka on its day of the week (Surya sloka on Sunday, Chandra on Monday, etc.). For complete planetary balance, recite all 9 verses in sequence.
