Sade Sati Calculator — Check Your Shani 7.5-Year Transit
Quick Answer: Sade Sati is the 7.5-year period when Saturn (Shani) transits the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from your natal Moon (Janma Rashi). It unfolds in 3 phases of 2.5 years each — Rising (Aroha), Peak (Madhya), and Setting (Avaroha). Every person experiences 2-3 Sade Satis in a 90-year lifetime.

What is Sade Sati?
Sade Sati (Sanskrit: साढ़े साती, literally "7.5") is one of the most discussed transits in Vedic astrology. It occurs when Saturn (Shani) transits over the 12th house, 1st house (with the natal Moon), and 2nd house from your Janma Rashi (Moon sign at birth). Since Saturn spends roughly 2.5 years in each rashi, the total duration is 2.5 × 3 = 7.5 years.
Sade Sati does not affect everyone equally. Your Lagna (Ascendant), Moon's strength, current Mahadasha, and the specific houses Saturn lords in your chart all determine whether this period is challenging or transformative. For some, it's the most difficult period of their lives; for others, it brings deep maturation, professional success, and spiritual growth.
The 3 Phases of Sade Sati
- Rising (Aroha) — 2.5 years: Saturn enters the 12th house from your Moon. Themes: financial pressure, hidden enemies, foreign travel, expenses, isolation. Most impacted: your sense of security.
- Peak (Madhya) — 2.5 years: Saturn transits over your natal Moon (1st house from Moon). Themes: emotional intensity, identity reshaping, health concerns (especially mental health), major life decisions. Most impacted: your inner self.
- Setting (Avaroha) — 2.5 years: Saturn enters the 2nd house from your Moon. Themes: family obligations, financial settlement, speech issues, accumulated wealth tests. Most impacted: relationships and possessions.
Note: A related transit called Shani Dhaiya (Ashtama Shani) occurs when Saturn transits the 4th or 8th house from your natal Moon. This is a 2.5-year period (not 7.5), often called "Shani Dhaiya" and is considered as serious as Sade Sati's peak phase.
Effects by Birth Rashi
Saturn affects each rashi differently. Below are the rashis currently in or approaching Sade Sati:
- Makara (Capricorn) — completed Sade Sati in early 2026. Currently in Saturn's "release" phase.
- Kumbha (Aquarius) — in Setting phase (Avaroha) through 2027. Saturn is leaving — patience is key.
- Meena (Pisces) — entering Peak (Madhya) phase. Most intense period 2026-2028.
- Mesha (Aries) — entering Rising (Aroha) phase. Pre-Sade-Sati preparation begins.
- All other rashis: not in Sade Sati. Some may experience Shani Dhaiya — see below.
Vedic Remedies (Parihara)
- Hanuman Chalisa daily — Hanuman is considered Saturn's only friend; Chalisa recitation grants protection.
- Shani Stotra / Dasaratha Shani Stotra on Saturdays.
- Til (sesame) + mustard oil donation on Saturday evenings.
- Blue Sapphire (Neelam) — ONLY after qualified astrologer consultation (wrong stone can cause harm).

- Avoid alcohol, meat, lying throughout the 7.5-year period.
- Visit Shani Shingnapur or any major Shani temple. Light til oil lamp.
- Mahamrityunjaya Jaap — 108×40 days during the Peak phase.
