About These Mantras
Each mantra and stotra in this library is presented in three forms: the original Sanskrit (Devanagari), Roman transliteration (IAST), and a scholarly English translation. All texts are sourced from the Rigveda, Yajurveda, Sama Veda, Atharva Veda, classical Smriti texts (Mahabharata, Ramayana, Puranas), or attested compositions of historical acharyas (Tulsidas, Adi Shankara, Vyasa).
How to Choose a Mantra
If you are new to mantra practice:
- Universal first choice: Gayatri Mantra — recited daily by Hindus for 4,000+ years
- For health and protection: Mahamrityunjaya Mantra or Shri Rudram
- For courage and obstacle removal: Hanuman Chalisa, Sundara Kanda, or Sankata Nashana Ganesha
- For prosperity and family welfare: Sri Suktam, Lakshmi Ashtottara, or Vishnu Sahasranama
- For studies and exams: Saraswati Vandana, Ganesha Atharvashirsha
- For victory and confidence: Aditya Hridayam
- For planetary remedies: Navagraha Mool Mantras (consult a Jyotishi)
- For detachment / approaching old age: Bhaja Govindam, Bhagavad Gita Chapter 15
Daily Practice
Even a minimal practice of 11 recitations of one mantra at Brahma Muhurta (90 minutes before sunrise) is transformative when sustained for 40 days. Choose one mantra and commit to it before adding others. For today's most auspicious mantra (based on tithi/nakshatra/weekday), see today's mantra of the day.
