Vivah Muhurtam 2026 — Marriage Dates

Published panchangams give 61 auspicious marriage days for Hyderabad in 2026, in two blocks: February to July, and November to December. Two independent panchangams agree on 27 of those days. There are no marriage dates at all in January, August, September or October 2026.

Chaturmasya is the four-month period when Lord Vishnu is held to enter cosmic sleep (yoga-nidra), from Devshayani Ekadashi on 25 July 2026 to Devutthana Ekadashi on 20 November 2026. Marriages resume with the first listed date, 21 November 2026. Traditional Hindu families do not perform marriages during this period. It is not the only block on the 2026 calendar: January is ruled out because Venus is combust (Shukra Tara Asta), and an adhika leap month covers part of May and June.

Eleven nakshatras are traditionally accepted for marriage: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. Pushya, auspicious for almost every other undertaking, is not among them for marriage. Even inside the eleven there are exclusions: the first quarter of Magha and of Mula, and the last quarter of Revati, are rejected, and some astrologers avoid Uttara Phalguni.

Akshaya Tritiya 2026 falls on Sunday, 19 April 2026 — the third tithi of Vaishakha Shukla Paksha, running from 10:52 AM on 19 April to 7:30 AM on 20 April. It is regarded as one of the most auspicious days of the year for new beginnings such as starting a business, buying gold or registering property. Marriage is a separate question: published panchangams do not list 19 April 2026 as a marriage date, because no auspicious marriage nakshatra is running that day. The next listed marriage date is 20 April 2026.

Hindu Vivah Muhurtam requires: (1) a suitable tithi — Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Ekadashi and Trayodashi are preferred, while the rikta tithis Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi are avoided; (2) one of the eleven marriage nakshatras; (3) a suitable lagna (rising sign) for the window itself; (4) a suitable weekday — Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are favoured, Tuesday is not; (5) no Chaturmasya, no adhika or kshaya masa, and neither Venus nor Jupiter combust. The tithi and nakshatra that matter are the ones running during the chosen window, which is usually later in the day — so a date can be auspicious even when the tithi at sunrise is one of the avoided ones. Match against both the bride’s and the groom’s charts before fixing a date.
