Jambavan's sweet words, hearing which, Hanuman was much pleased in heart. "Wait for me here, brothers — endure hardship, eating only roots, tubers, and fruits..." (The opening verses of the Sundara Kanda, before Hanuman's leap to Lanka.)

About the Sundara Kanda (Tulsidas Hindi)

The Sundara Kanda ("Beautiful Chapter") is the fifth and most beloved kanda of Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas — and is considered the most spiritually potent section for solving material problems. It narrates Hanuman's journey: his great leap across the ocean to Lanka, his search for Sita in the Ashoka Vatika, his meeting with her, his interaction with Ravana, the burning of Lanka, and his return with news of Sita. The theological insight: Hanuman achieved what seemed impossible (a leap of 800 miles, finding one woman in a vast city, confronting Ravana, surviving the burning of his tail) because of his unwavering faith in Rama. This makes the Sundara Kanda the prescribed reading for anyone facing what seems like an "impossible" situation — a court case, a life-threatening illness, a financial crisis, a difficult marriage, an impossible work goal. The traditional way to recite is the "Saptaha Patha" — one section per day over 7 days, completing the whole on the 7th day with a Hanuman Chalisa, an offering of fruits/sweets, and a meal for those in need. Across North India, millions of households perform this Saptaha each year. For severe issues, families perform 11 complete Saptahs (77 days).
