आरती कीजै हनुमान लला की । दुष्ट दलन रघुनाथ कला की ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

Āratī kīje Hanumāna lalā kī / Duṣṭa dalana Raghunātha kalā kī

English Translation

Perform aarti of beloved Hanuman — destroyer of the wicked, partial incarnation of Rama.

When to Sing

Tuesdays, Saturdays, after Hanuman Chalisa, Hanuman Jayanti.

How to Perform Aarti

  1. Light the aarti lamp: Use ghee in a 5-wicker or 1-wicker lamp. Light all wicks.
  2. Hold with right hand: Stand in front of the deity image/idol.
  3. Circular motion: Move the lamp in clockwise circles in front of the deity's face (5 times), heart (5 times), feet (5 times), and full body (5 times).
  4. Sing the aarti: The chorus repeats; family members join in the chorus.
  5. Conclusion: Show the flame to all family members (they "receive" the flame by passing palms over and to their eyes).
  6. Offer water: Sprinkle a few drops of water around the lamp at conclusion.
  7. Distribute prasad: Offerings prepared for the deity are distributed to all present.
