Main Door Vastu — ముఖద్వార వాస్తు
Vastu Shastra Telugu Guide · Classical Manasara & Mayamatam principles
The main entrance is the channel through which all energy enters the home. East and North-facing doors are most auspicious. Door size, threshold height, and decorations directly affect family fortune.
Best Main Door Directions
- East (Indra): Sunrise direction — most auspicious for fame, success, prosperity. Ideal for businesspeople and students.
- North (Kubera): Wealth direction — attracts material prosperity, savings, treasure accumulation.
- Northeast (Ishanya): Most divine direction — best for spiritually-inclined families, brings peace + abundance.
- West: Acceptable with proper internal compensation (mirrors, yantras).
Avoid: South (Yama — death direction), Southwest (Nairutya — instability for residents), Northwest (Vayu — restlessness).
Door Design Rules
- Two-shutter (double-leaf) door is more auspicious than single — symbolizes welcome.
- Open inward, never outward — outward-opening doors "push away" prosperity.
- Should not squeak — squeaking attracts negative energy. Oil hinges regularly.
- Threshold (godhumba) raised by 2-3 inches from floor — prevents negative energy from entering at floor level.
- Door size: tallest in the home — main door must be the largest. Inner doors progressively smaller.
Decorations & Symbols
- Toran of fresh mango leaves above the door — purifies entering energy. Replace weekly (or daily during festivals).
- Ganesha image above the doorframe — remover of obstacles.
- Lakshmi footprints (Lakshmi Padalu) entering inward — drawn with rice flour or kumkum during Diwali/Varalakshmi vratam.
- Swastik symbol on either side — protects from negative energy.
- Avoid: shoe rack visible from outside, pictures of crying/sad faces, broken/damaged items near door.
