❓ FAQ
▸ Do I need 21 modakas or is fewer okay?
For Vinayaka Chavithi and Sankashti Chaturthi — 21 modakas is traditional (multiples of 3 also acceptable: 21, 51, 101). For daily/weekly Ganesh puja, any number is fine. Sincere offering matters more than exact count.
▸ What if I cannot find durva grass?
Durva (bermuda grass, hariyali) is very common — grows on lawns, roadsides. If truly unavailable, use tulsi leaves or fresh flowers. Note this substitution in your sankalpa.
▸ Should I worship Ganesh before every other deity?
Yes. Universal Hindu convention: Ganesh first, then main deity. This ensures the ritual completes without obstacles.
▸ Can menstruating women perform Ganesh puja?
Traditional view: physical puja avoided during menstruation, but mental prayer/chanting always welcomed. Modern view varies by family; consult your parampara.
▸ What is the difference between Vinayaka Chavithi and Sankashti Chaturthi?
Vinayaka Chavithi: annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi (Aug-Sep). Sankashti Chaturthi: monthly Chaturthi in Krishna paksha (14 days after full moon) — observed monthly for obstacle removal.
▸ How long can I keep the clay idol before visarjana?
Traditionally 1½ days (Ganesh Chaturthi + Anant Chaturdashi), 5 days, or 11 days. Choose per family tradition. Daily aarti during that period.
