- Traditionally performed on the 11th or 12th day after birth
- Name should begin with the syllable indicated by the child's birth Nakshatra
- Avoid Rahu Kalam and Yamagandam during the ceremony
- Father whispers the name in the child's right ear
- Name should have auspicious meaning
