Numerology Calculator — Mulank, Bhagyank, Namank

Quick Answer: Vedic numerology is the study of how numbers (derived from your birth date and name) reveal your inherent personality, life path, and lucky elements. The 3 core numbers are: Mulank (Birth Number — single digit reduction of your birth day), Bhagyank (Destiny Number — reduction of your full DOB), and Namank (Name Number — Chaldean letter-to-number conversion of your name).

Vedic vs Western Numerology

Vedic numerology (used here) uses the Chaldean letter-number system — assigning numbers to letters based on phonetic vibration, derived from ancient Sumerian-Babylonian-Hebrew traditions. Western (Pythagorean) numerology uses simple alphabet position (A=1, B=2, C=3...). The Chaldean system aligns better with how Sanskrit syllables vibrate and is preferred for Vedic compatibility analysis.

How Numbers Connect to Astrology

Each single-digit number (1-9) is ruled by a specific planet (Navagraha). This is why Vedic numerology integrates seamlessly with Vedic astrology — your Mulank's planetary lord influences which colors, days, gemstones, and deities are favorable for you. Combined with your janma rashi (Moon sign) and nakshatra, numerology adds a precise personalization layer to astrology.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Vedic Numerology?
Vedic Numerology (Anka Jyotisha) is an ancient Indian system that assigns numerical values to birth dates and names to reveal personality, life path, and lucky elements. Unlike Western (Pythagorean) numerology, it uses the Chaldean letter-number mapping which is closer to original Sanskrit-Hebrew numerology. The 3 core numbers — Mulank, Bhagyank, Namank — together provide a complete numerological profile.
What is the difference between Mulank and Bhagyank?
Mulank (Birth Number) uses ONLY your day of birth (1-31), reduced to a single digit. It represents your inherent ego and personality. Bhagyank (Destiny Number) uses your FULL date of birth (day + month + year), reduced to a single digit. It represents your life path and karmic destiny. Both are computed from DOB but reveal different layers.
Should Mulank and Bhagyank match my Namank?
Ideally, your Namank (Name Number) should be compatible with your Mulank and Bhagyank — not necessarily identical, but harmonious. Numbers in the same group (e.g., 1+9, 2+7) are compatible. If your Namank conflicts with your Mulank, some recommend slight spelling adjustments to align them. Always consult a qualified numerologist before name change.
Which Numerology system is best for Indians?
The Chaldean Numerology system (used in our Namank calculator) is the most accurate for Vedic compatibility because its letter-number mapping derives from the same Sanskrit-Hebrew root system that informs Vedic astrology. The Pythagorean system (A=1, B=2, C=3...) is simpler but less authentic for Vedic purposes.

About These Calculations

Our Vedic calculators use astronomical-grade ephemerides converted to sidereal positions via the Lahiri (Chitra-paksha) Ayanamsa — the Government of India's official sidereal standard since the 1955 Saha Committee Calendar Reform. The Moon Sign (Chandra Rāśi) calculator computes the Moon's longitude using a simplified ELP-2000 lunar model, then subtracts the Lahiri Ayanamsa (currently ~24°13′) to get the sidereal position. Dividing the result by 30° gives the rāśi (sign).

Accuracy Note

For ~95% of dates the result matches the position computed by professional ephemerides (Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri Ephemeris). For dates near rāśi boundaries (within 3° of a sign edge), we display a warning to verify with a Vedic astrologer — small algorithmic differences can place the Moon in the adjacent sign. Pure observational accuracy to the minute requires birth time and place precision.

Trust & Methodology

Calculation methodology reviewed by Pandit Ramachandra Sharma, Editorial Lead for Panchangam Methodology, against classical Sūrya Siddhānta and the modern Lahiri Ephemeris. For deeper reading on Lahiri's foundational work, see Lahiri Ayanamsa. For more Vedic tools, see all calculators.
