Namank (Name Number) Calculator — Free Chaldean Numerology

Quick Answer: Namank (Name Number) is the single-digit reduction of your full name using the Chaldean numerology system. Each letter has a number assigned (A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=8, G=3, etc.). Sum all letters of your name, then reduce to a single digit. Namank reveals how others perceive you, your public reputation, and the energy your name carries.

How Namank is Calculated (Chaldean System)

In the Chaldean system, each letter has a specific numerical vibration:

NumberLetters
1A, I, J, Q, Y
2B, K, R
3C, G, L, S
4D, M, T
5E, H, N, X
6U, V, W
7O, Z
8F, P

Important: The number 9 is sacred (Brahma) and is NOT assigned to any letter in the Chaldean system. It only appears as a final reduced value.

Should You Change Your Name?

Changing your name is one of the most significant karmic acts in Vedic numerology. Consider it ONLY if:

Often, small spelling changes (adding "h", doubling a letter, removing a silent letter) can shift Namank by 1-2 points without disrupting your identity. This is preferred over major name changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Chaldean Numerology system?
The Chaldean system (used in our Namank calculator) is the ancient numerology system derived from Sumerian-Babylonian-Hebrew traditions. It assigns letters to numbers based on their phonetic vibration, not alphabet position. Vedic numerology uses the Chaldean system because its letter-number mapping aligns with how Sanskrit syllables vibrate. The simpler Pythagorean system (A=1, B=2, ...) is less accurate for Vedic purposes.
Should I change my name to improve my Namank?
Only after careful consultation with a qualified Vedic numerologist. A name change is a significant karmic act — it affects how others perceive you, opportunities that come, and your social reputation. Minor spelling adjustments (e.g., adding/removing a letter) can shift your Namank without changing your identity dramatically. Major name changes should be done only when Namank significantly conflicts with Bhagyank.
Does my surname count in Namank?
Traditional Vedic numerology uses your COMMONLY USED full name — usually first name + middle name + surname. If you go by just your first name socially, calculate with just first name. The "name vibration" is created by how people actually call you, not by your legal documents. Use the name you respond to most often.

About These Calculations

Our Vedic calculators use astronomical-grade ephemerides converted to sidereal positions via the Lahiri (Chitra-paksha) Ayanamsa — the Government of India's official sidereal standard since the 1955 Saha Committee Calendar Reform. The Moon Sign (Chandra Rāśi) calculator computes the Moon's longitude using a simplified ELP-2000 lunar model, then subtracts the Lahiri Ayanamsa (currently ~24°13′) to get the sidereal position. Dividing the result by 30° gives the rāśi (sign).

Accuracy Note

For ~95% of dates the result matches the position computed by professional ephemerides (Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri Ephemeris). For dates near rāśi boundaries (within 3° of a sign edge), we display a warning to verify with a Vedic astrologer — small algorithmic differences can place the Moon in the adjacent sign. Pure observational accuracy to the minute requires birth time and place precision.

Trust & Methodology

Calculation methodology reviewed by Pandit Ramachandra Sharma, Editorial Lead for Panchangam Methodology, against classical Sūrya Siddhānta and the modern Lahiri Ephemeris. For deeper reading on Lahiri's foundational work, see Lahiri Ayanamsa. For more Vedic tools, see all calculators.
