Indira Ekadashi 2027 (also called Indira Ekadasi / Ashwina Krishna Ekadashi) falls on Sunday, 26 September 2027. From the Brahma Vaivarta Purana — Yudhishthira asked Krishna about this Ekadashi and Krishna narrated the story of King Indrasena of Mahishmati whose deceased father appeared to him in a dream from Yama-loka, asking to be liberated; sage Narada advised Indrasena to observe Indira Ekadashi, and by its punya his father was elevated from Yama-loka to Vishnu-loka. Named "Indira" (a name of Goddess Lakshmi = wealth-of-punya). The ONLY Ekadashi that specifically benefits deceased ancestors — hence uniquely important during Pitru Paksha (which is when it falls). Observers dedicate the vrata's punya to their pitrus, and this is often the ONLY vrat needed to liberate ancestors stuck in preta / pisacha states.
