The Mulugu Vedic Tradition
The Mulugu family is a multi-generation Telugu Vedic scholar lineage specializing in Jyotisha (astrology) and Karma Kanda (ritual). Brahmasri Mulugu Ramalingeswara Varaprasad Siddhanthi is the principal modern face of the tradition, widely known for his annual rasi-phalalu predictions and Ugadi panchanga-sravanam broadcasts on Telugu television channels (ETV, TV9, Bhakti TV, ABN, NTV).
Publications
- Mulugu Gantala Panchangam — the flagship annual almanac (Telugu, ~200 pages, released at Ugadi)
- Mulugu Drik Ganita Panchangam — astronomically precise edition
- Annual Rasi Phalalu — 12-rasi yearly predictions, released as separate booklet and TV serial
- Muhurtha books — wedding/gruhapravesam muhurtam guides
Calculation System
Mulugu uses Drik Ganita (modern observational astronomy) with the Lahiri Chitra-paksha Ayanamsa — the same standard as the Government of India's Rashtriya Panchang. This ensures astronomical accuracy for tithi junctions, nakshatra changes, sunrise/sunset, and eclipse timings.
Where to Get
The annual Mulugu Panchangam is available from mulugu.com, major Telugu bookstores (Vishalandhra, Vavilla), temple gift counters at TTD/Yadadri/Bhadrachalam, and Telugu newsstands during the 3-week Ugadi season (mid-March to early April).
