Rath Yatra 2027 — Monday 5 July

రథ యాత్ర 2027

Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya · Jagannath Rath Yatra / Puri Ratha Jatra / Gundicha Yatra · Dwitiya Tithi 4 Jul 08:34 IST – 6 Jul 01:15 IST · Pahandi Bije and the pulling of the three chariots begin after Mangala Aarti on the morning of 5 Jul (Puri)

Rath Yatra 2027 (also called Jagannath Rath Yatra / Puri Ratha Jatra / Gundicha Yatra) falls on Monday, 5 July 2027. Rath Yatra is the one day in the year when Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra leave the sanctum of the Puri temple and travel the three kilometres to the Gundicha Temple on three newly built wooden chariots. Because the deities come out to the street, darshan on this day is open to everyone without distinction of caste, faith or nationality — the reason the festival is described as the darshan that comes to the devotee rather than the devotee going to the darshan. The deities remain at Gundicha for nine days before the Bahuda Yatra return journey. Primary observance: Netrotsava and Nabajaubana Darshan in the days before, when the deities reappear after the Anasara seclusion. Recommended muhurat: Dwitiya Tithi 4 Jul 08:34 IST – 6 Jul 01:15 IST · Pahandi Bije and the pulling of the three chariots begin after Mangala Aarti on the morning of 5 Jul (Puri).
