Sri Uttaradi Math
Sri Uttaradi Math traces its lineage to Sri Padmanabha Tirtha, a direct disciple of Sri Madhwacharya (1238-1317 CE) — the founder of the Dvaita Vedanta school. The math is one of the principal centers of the Madhwa tradition and has produced revered saints including Sri Jayatirtha, Sri Vyasatirtha, and Sri Satyatirtha. The current Math headquarters are at Bengaluru.
What the Panchanga Contains
- Daily Madhwa observances aligned with Dvaita siddhanta
- Ekadashi observances per Madhwa tradition (Smaarta vs. Vaishnava ekadashi distinction)
- Aradhana dates of Madhwa saints (Jayatirtha, Vyasatirtha, Raghavendra, etc.)
- Chaturmasya start/end dates per Madhwa tradition
- Hayagriva Jayanti, Madhwa Jayanti, Madhwa Navami
- Krishna Janmashtami (per Madhwa Ashtami calculation, often a day after Smarta)
- Standard panchanga: tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, vara
- Sunrise/sunset for major South Indian cities
Madhwa-Specific Tithi Rules
Madhwa Vaishnavas follow specific tithi-determination rules that differ from Smarta tradition — particularly for Ekadashi (Vaishnava strictly observe Suddha Ekadashi without Dashami-vedha) and Janmashtami (Madhwa observes Krishna Ashtami on the day when ashtami prevails at midnight with Rohini nakshatra). The Uttaradi Math Panchanga is the authoritative reference for these.
